Hi Vince, first I’d like to thank you for sparing some of your time to read my review on “Postal” and doing this interview with me.
As I heard of a “Postal”-Movie coming up I got a little concerned about the choice of Uwe Boll as director. His bad reputation was well known and I did not expect him to do any better in this movie than he did in others before. Although my doubts were proven wrong I still wonder why you chose Uwe Boll.
He called us. I too was aware of his reputation, but when I compared him other Hollywood people I had met, he was at least honest and it seemed to make sense that the most banned game in history would be made into a film by the most despised movie director. I like him personally, and that made my decision easy.
Cirtics often claim that the movie had too less in common with the game. Personally, I think that the movie interprets the games plot in an unusual but in fact proper way. What do you think about these critics?
I’ve always felt that critics are one of the most meaningless jobs in the history or work and careers. Why would anyone let someone else think for them. This applies to games, music, books, wine, etc. I drink a lot of wine, and sometime a bottle that is highly rated by experts blows to me, so fuck the critics.
Which character of the game do you think is adapted best in the movie?
KROTCHY. I loved being in that suit. Funny thing is on location some of the crew couldn’t believe that I, the Executive Producer, would do it, but fuck that – I thought it was a great opportunity and would be good for the movie.
During the gunfight in “Little Germany” a lot of children died. As I know from other interviews with you, violence against children is something you don`t want to show in Postal games because it never could be funny. So what do you think about this scene?
I wasn’t sure at the time but after I seen the way the reporter was concerned that she was getting a good camera angle I thought it brilliant.
How did you come up with the idea for the “Krotchydolls”?
RWS Creative Director, Steve Wik came up with it, I will let you ask him
SW: Well, the original idea behind Krotchy was to poke fun at the seasonal “must have” toy. Every year it’s something else, supplies are low and there’s frenzy as parents try to prove how much they love their kids by trying to nab some plastic Holy Grail. So instead of “Tickle Me” Elmo, we had “Bad Touch” Krotchy. He was designed to be the most retarded character franchise ever, just to make the whole situation even more absurd. In the game, there are no Krotchy dolls to be found, only his lame sidekick Larry the Crab, which no one wants. Uwe took that and ran with it, turning the dolls into a vehicle for smuggling weaponized bird flu. I thought monkey pox would’ve been funnier, but whatever…
After “Postal” and “Postal 2″ the audience is used to excperience broken taboos and weird content in your games. How do you plan to keep up with this in the upcoming “Postal 3″ videogame?
Gay biker gangs, the RWS Badger Saw, Ron Jeremy, the Village People and Playboy Postal Babes, do I have your attention?
Could you imagine to authorize a Postal movie based on “Postal 3″?
Absolutely, and I think it could be easier because POSTAL III is actually more mainstream than ever before, but have no fear, the roadmap to mainstream in POSTAL III takes you directly over the moral cliff.
Which director would be your first choice?
Clint Eastwood
What do you think about “Troma”?
I have great respect for Lloyd Kaufman, I was first introduced to him many years ago, as an example of someone who makes movies he likes for the hell of it, exactly what we do at RWS.
How do you deal with overly concerned parents, missled interest groups and censorship ?
I’m a parent, a son, a uncle, a stepfather, a friend, a former teacher, a concerned citizen-I speak the truth, honesty it the best tool for education and weapon to challenge your adversaries.
If you only could choose three adjectives to describe yourself, which would it be?
Honest, fearless, inimitable.
Any final words for the German “Postal” fans?
Have no fear, be proud , and thank you.
Thanks a lot for the interview and best wishes to the whole Running with Scissors team. Keep up your good work!
